From construction to transportation, truck weighing play a pivotal part in a wide variety of businesses. Company “Kelių priežiūra” (“Road Maintenance”) manages more than 300 truck fleets and 70 sand/gravel quarries. Materials are loaded both in quarries and in subdivisions (e.g., salt, sand). Weighing trucks on stationary scales is an expensive and time-consuming process.
Furthermore, the company also buys bulk materials from other enterprises, so without a quick and flexible way to measure the quantity delivered, discrepancies can occur. For this reason, there has been a need for rapid real-time determination of truck weight or weight change after material loading that can also be used on undulated terrains and unstable surfaces. The only limitation regarding the challenge is that a solution allowing us to measure the weight of the trucks must be without any contact or intervention to the truck itself.
Challenge
There is a need for technology for real-time contactless truck weighing, which can be implemented both in permanent weighing locations and in temporary single-weighing places. The scales should record the trucks that are actually loaded with net weights and easily calculated by weighing trucks both full and empty. Such data would make it possible to find out whether the weight coincides with the ordered bulk materials.
Furthermore, contactless truck weighing solutions should ensure strict adherence to applicable laws and safety precautions. Built tough, these portable scales should be able easy to transport and quick to install but also accurate and cost-effective. The ability to move and re-install scales is a must because the company manages a large number of quarries
